Domestic helper, prostitute, or nurse? Living with the Filipina stereotype in Hong Kong

Được đăng bởi Man United on Thursday, October 27, 2016

"I’m not a domestic helper, I’m not a prostitute, I’m not a nurse. I am me."
OPINION — “Where are you from?” Asks a man across the aisle from me on a flight to Hong Kong from Tokyo. He is stout, middle-aged, Asian, and has been working on a Japanese language exercise book since the plane took off.
“Philippines,” I say nonchalantly. While I’m hesitant to get dragged into a conversation with him, I am loath to be outright rude to anyone unless blatantly offended. His question seemed harmless enough anyway. In retrospect I can hear my French-Filipino boyfriend’s voice in my head chastising me for being so “damn naïve” and it being a product of an all-girls education – lacking the gumption and acerbity to cut down men before they can even begin to make an advance.
“Oooh, Philippines. I love Philippines. I’ve been to Cebu, Bohol, Boracay…” This reaction is the usual spiel I get from foreigners who have been to my country. Nothing strange about it, I do the same sometimes to people from countries I am fondly familiar with.
Chances are, however, when it’s a strange man gushing to me about the Philippines – and this happens to me on almost a monthly basis – he is reliving memories of scantily clad, giggling, brown-skinned girls fawning all over him. It’s usually a foreigner who got more bang for his buck, literally, in my homeland.
--
Little is being said about it, but everybody knows: Filipino women have a less-than-savoury reputation abroad. Although many good things are being said about us (loving, affectionate, kind, customer oriented, that we make good nurses, helpers, nannies, and caregivers), the negative overpowers the positive.
At least that’s the case in Hong Kong where I’ve been living for the last five years, and so I’ve heard, Singapore. (On that note, I’d like Filipinas to also be known for being strong, intelligent, ambitious, and educated, but that’s a more complex social issue tackled elsewhere).
Here, we’re seen as opportunistic, gold-digging, lazy, untrustworthy, promiscuous, and dirty. That woman your husband will cheat on you with. That woman who will be all over men with white skin and/or deep pockets. The easy lay.
A foreigner will not see or respect a Filipino woman the same way he will see or interact with a European, Latina, or Australian woman. On a night out in Madrid, my Spanish girlfriend and I were making our way out of a nightclub. At least four men stopped me on my way out, a couple downright telling me to go home with them.
“How dare they!” said my friend Almudena. “They do this to you because you’re Asian! If it were a Spanish pija (posh girl) they would never come on that way! I am outraged!”
“Oh Filipinas!” A Madrileño brightened up immediately when I mentioned it offhandedly. “I’ve been there! Do you know these girls? They took me out in the Philippines, they’re celebrities!” He shows me a few photos of dancers from a noontime show. “I’d love to go back to the Philippines.” I turn my back on the wistful expression on his face, my skin crawling.
This is what they think of us. It is with a sinking feeling that I listen to the beginning of that all-too-familiar speech that has invaded introductory conversations with men (and some women) for most of my twenties.
An Irish man I used to date told his officemates about me once. “I’m seeing an amazing girl tonight,” he said over lunch.
“That’s great!” said his Hong Kong colleague. “Where’s she from?”
“The Philippines,” said the Irish.
“Oh,” an uncomfortable look passes over the colleague’s face. “What’s she doing here?” they carefully said.
“She’s a journalist.”
“Oh!” they said, relieved. “Great, man.”
Frankly, the colleague was afraid the Irish was yet another white-man-in-Asia “victimised” by one of many Filipinas who squeeze men dry to send money home to pay for their family’s food, rent, and education. This is how they see us. It’s not a situation anybody wants to be in, and desperation drives these cases.
I will surely offend many by saying I hate to be branded this way. The sad reality is that most of my countrywomen are only doing what they can to make their lives better. And yet there are people like me too – yes, privileged – but also with the right to feel and say: I don’t want to be labelled like that. I want to be regarded with more respect and dignity.
Of course, you can prove them wrong when they get to know you. To that end, this stereotyping may ultimately seem to be a shallow and bothersome thing, but it should not be dismissed. More and more Filipinas are experiencing this by the day, and why shouldn’t we acknowledge those of us who feel this way?
A few days back, in Tokyo, an Australian man – a friend of a friend, whom I met at a birthday event – turned passive-aggressive on me when I refused to pander to him, as he was clearly expecting something else. “Bitchy” was one of the words he used in that conversation, during which he also tried to prove that my English was bad after I used a word he didn’t recognise: “repressed”. “We don’t say that in Australia,” he scoffed, before looking up its definition. “Let’s see if you’re using it right.”
During my first year in Hong Kong, after quickly realising that men expect me – as a Filipina – to be warm, open and flirty, there was a period when I would try to avoid saying where I was from. Later I realised I was doing myself and my country a disservice. I am not ashamed to say it, but often I have to mentally brace myself after my country of origin comes up in conversation.
While drinking with some friends one Wednesday night in Hong Kong, I refused to talk to a Japanese man who was trying to chat to me. As I walked away, his friends followed and tried shoving a thousand Hong Kong dollars in my face, as if that would change my mind. I was so shocked I couldn’t react until my friends dragged me away.
Once, a South Asian man followed me as I got off a minibus to go home. He was trying bargain with me: five hundred Hong Kong dollars was all I was worth that night. My terrorised twenty-two-year-old self had to run across Nathan Road and jump over a barrier to get away from him.
Another time, my sister and I were walking home when a French guy crossed over the street to talk to us. “Do I need to pay you to talk?” he jeered, after we ignored his attempts at conversation.
My experiences have in some ways moulded me into the “least Filipina Filipina” people have met. I am reserved and cold, the opposite of friendly; I cut people down, do not smile or laugh when first meeting strangers, I rarely initiate conversation.
--
“Where in the Philippines are you from?” says the man on the plane.
“Manila,” I say curtly. I don’t even look up from my copy of The Economist. Dressing and carrying yourself well helps a lot, but apparently it doesn’t always spare you from the typecasting and advances.
“Manila! I always go to Manila. I recruit health workers to send to China,” he says. “Have Weibo?”
“No.”
“Have Facebook?”
“Yes.”
“If your friends want a job they can get in touch with me.” He shoves his workbook on my tray table and motions emphatically for me to write my details. I know this trick; they try to lure you by using professional opportunities as bait. Sadly, I think it actually works with many women.
“No,” I raise my voice to make sure I’m clear as day this time, firmly returning his book and pen.
“Alright, forget it then.” His tone turns nasty when he realises he won’t get anywhere with me. Again, this is standard.
I may be accused of being a shrew, but sometimes, there really is such a thing as being too nice. It’s something many of us have to learn the hard way when we leave the Philippines.

Game Boys Arcade Opens on WALKING STREET in Angeles City Pampanga Philippines

Được đăng bởi Man United on Wednesday, October 26, 2016

Just when you thought Hello Kitty Cafe and Hello Kitty Salon were as ridiculous as you could possibly go in Angeles City phase 1599 is upon us and I don't quite get how the authorities managed to licence or approve for a Children's Arcade and Amusement business to be allowed to open on the main red light district in Angeles City in the Philippines but thats exactly whats happened.

GAME BOYS (even the name is so GAY and initially when I heard it I though it was good news for Phillies as the Lady Boys mush have found a new home) Its open and according to a number of Korean style bar girls holding their FAKE HELLO KITTY toys won at the arcade its a welcome addition to an area behind Paradise that has failed on numerous occasions to house profitable go go bars...

Actually only CLUBMIX and Paradise itself have done consistent business there and many girly bars have opened and closed without much fanfare whatsoever

The only bonus is when street kids steal your money you will know where to find them....

Who was your favorite bar girl and from which BAR in Angeles City Pampanga?

Được đăng bởi Man United

Recently we ran a few twitter quizzes asking people who they thought was their best Bar Girl and from which bar... and we received over 50 replies in the first hour.

Bar girls have changed a lot over the years that is without question, rarely do you see the natural looking Filipinos with great curves and big smiles that make every man realize they are in the home of some of the worlds most beautiful women.

The Koreans have tried to change it, making the natural look now a ghostly white due to BB Cream and Baby Powder used on the girls faces making them essentially walk about with brown hands and bodies with white faces.. In some countries they may admit someone to hospital for looking so abnormal but Koreans want Filipina's to look like the same Korean girls who have rejected them their whole lives in Seoul, Busan, Daegu, Jeju and other South Korean cities.

So when you think of a bar what girl stands out as the go to girl in the bar for example for many years Stampede had a cherry girl called Cris and a small spinner called Trixie who had all the guys happy to pay their very generous 1200 pesos release fee to get to know the girls or lets flash it to 2015 where Aikee became the most popular and over used girl in Dollhouse/High Society and next door in Centauro Reyna the blonde haired girl with weird legs but nice skin was the GO TO GIRL..

The most famous girl we have ever encountered in the last few years has been Christina the former Bikini queen of Subic in her late teens moving from Route 69 at the time to Q Bar on walking street in Angeles, there were guys queuing up to firstly buy her a drink and secondly to take her out on dates, social encounters in her favorite place at the time High Society, Christina was smart she had 2/3 guys close to her offering holidays to Boracay, Cebu or countries like Singapore or Hong Kong but she was unsure of there bar mongers eventually falling for a guy she met in Subic a US Servicemen who is now going to be the father of her baby.

Aura Bar is the bar with the most memorable girls on Walking Street Aiko, Vannie, Janes, Joanna all top quality.

WHO are your favorites???

There are more girls and more stories and thats the thing with Angeles there are so many girls but only a handful of personalities and the ones with a glow in their eye or a wicked smile are the best ones to target.

Chinese RMB to be integrated into the Philippines Banking system will also be part of the Philippines foreign currency reserves.

Được đăng bởi Man United

British banking giant HSBC sees the Chinese renminbi (RMB) – recently declared by the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) eligible to form part of the country’s foreign currency reserves – turning into a major trading currency in the Philippines in the next five years.

HSBC Philippines president Wick Veloso, one of over 450 businessmen from the Philippines who joined the delegation to China during last week’s state visit by Pres. Rodrigo Duterte, said in a press statement that the BSP’s move to include the renminbi as part of the official reserve currencies was sending a strong signal to banks and the market to start using the currency locally.

While the use of renminbi locally was still at an early stage Veloso said it’s inevitable that clients would start thinking about this currency given that China was the second largest economy in the world and the Philippines’ top importer and second largest trading partner.

“Businesses are finding the RMB much easier to use. As financial regulations evolve, and as they become more accustomed to using China’s currency, businesses have less difficulty understanding regulations, navigating documentary requirements and moving funds than they did in the past,” Veloso said.
During last week’s Philippine state visit to China, Trade Secretary Ramon Lopez projected that the Philippines’ trade with China could reach $60 billion in five years with the renewed friendship between the two countries. He said the same could be expected from investment flows and influx of tourists.

Based on data from the Philippine Statistics Authority, Philippine exports to China rose by 7.9 percent from $5.7 billion in 2010 to $6.2 billion in 2015. In the first seven months of 2016, China ranked as the fourth largest destination of Philippine exports, with 10.2 percent share to total exports. Meanwhile, Philippine imports from China grew from $4.6 billion in 2010 to $11.5 billion in 2015.
By 2013, China had become the biggest source of Philippine imports, and this continued in the first seven months of the year, with imports from China at 18.5 percent ($8.4 billion) of total imports. In terms of tourist arrivals, data from the Department of Tourism show that in July 2016, China ranked as the second biggest visitor market for the Philippines, an improvement from its fourth place ranking in 2015.
“Within little more than a decade, the renminbi has gone from being almost exclusively domestic to being an important player in global payments and trade settlement,” Veloso said.

The HSBC executive said that the inclusion of the RMB in the International Monetary Fund (IMF)’s special drawing rights (SDR) inclusion had now catapulted it into the ranks of the world’s most important reserve currencies. He said this would give greater confidence to companies and institutions around the world to settle trade in renminbi and invest in RMB-denominated assets.
“It is interesting to see that views about RMB’s future impact have diverged since 2014. The use of the RMB as a major trading currency in the Philippines has, since 2014, been seen to materialize in the next five years or so, and HSBC has initiated talks with its clients to inform them of the advantages on the use of RMB and help them understand and appreciate how the RMB has matured as a global currency,” Veloso said.

“Using renminbi has become easier than ever before. It can certainly improve relationships with trading partners while helping mitigate foreign exchange risk. If you trade with China and are not at least looking at whether the renminbi is right for your company, you may be putting yourself at a competitive disadvantage over the long term,” he said.

Veloso said HSBC was excited to get into more conversations with clients on RMB and together explore opportunities on trade, investment, cash management and funding. He added that HSBC was “RMB-ready” with its full suite of capabilities on renminbi, ranging from deposit accounts to remittances, renminbi-denominated LCs and other trade products to renminbi-denominated bonds.

Good NEWS for Clark/Angeles, Philippines - The Clark International Airport Corporation and Qatar Airways have agreed to work together for the development of Clark International Airport

Được đăng bởi Man United on Tuesday, October 25, 2016

The Clark International Airport Corporation (CIAC) and Qatar Airways have agreed to work together for the development of Clark International Airport (CRK).

In line with this, Qatar Airways has bared plans to target upscale travelers going to destinations in Europe, the USA and the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries.

President Rodrigo Duterte earlier announced the greater utilization of the Clark airport as international gateway, s a move to decongest the Ninoy Aquino International Airport in Manila.
Department of Transportation (DOTr) Secretary Arturo Tugade on Monday said that among the benefits from the recent trip of the President to China is the increase in flights through the CRK.
Officials of CIAC, led by its President and CEO Alexander Cauguiran, met Monday with Qatar Airlines country manager Paolo Pausini on further cooperation and strengthened partnership to make Clark airport more active.

Qatar Airways is a major international carrier at CRK, with regular Clark-Doha and vice versa servicing mostly overseas Filipino workers (OFW) in Central and Northern Luzon.

Pausini said Qatar Airways is looking to expand its market by developing leisure, business and corporate traffic to Europe, the USA and the Gulf countries by tapping into its network in the Philippines, South Africa, North Africa and the Middle East.

Pausini said Qatar Airways is now working on an 18-month marketing plan for Clark airport.
Cauguiran, for his part, said marketing for airport and the airlines operating at the Clark airport is a key part of CIAC’s plans and programs.

“This is a plan of action we have approved during our recent strategic planning conference,” Cauguiran said, adding that CIAC will be conducting road tours to promote the flights at the Clark International Airport.

“The marketing and branding campaign will target our catchment area like the Northern Philippines and the northern part of Metro Manila like Caloocan and Quezon City,” he added.

CIAC will be visiting many regions in the Northern Philippines, Camanava (Caloocan, Malabon, Navotas, Valenzuela) area during its road tours to inform potential passengers, particularly OFWs on the benefits and convenience of flying out and into Clark.

Pausini said Qatar Airways will cooperate in the co-branding activities and roadshows.

“It’s very important to promote Clark as even a better gateway to the crowded Manila,” he stressed.
Aside from Qatar Airways, Clark Airport is also host to other Middle East carrier such as Emirates Airlines with daily circular service via Dubai-Cebu-Clark.

Others airlines operating in Clark include South Korea’s Asiana Airlines and Jin Air via Incheon-Clark and Pusan; Dragonair via Clark-Hong Kong, Cebu Pacific via Singapore, Hong Kong and Macau and domestically to Cebu; Tiger Air via Singapore.

President Stands firm on War v Drugs and encourages foreign businesses who are not supportive to leave the Philippines

Được đăng bởi Man United

President Rodrigo Duterte on Tuesday urged foreign businesses in the Philippines worried about his deadly drug war to "pack up and leave", as he launched another anti-American tirade before flying to Japan to attract investments.

Duterte voiced outrage at comments made the previous day by the top US envoy to Asia that his fiery rhetoric and crime war, which has claimed about 3,700 lives in four months, were bad for business.

"These Americans are really crazy," Duterte said, as he held up a newspaper with headlines reporting criticism from US assistant secretary of state Daniel Russel.

"Russel says 'Duterte comments causing worries in business communities'. Then you pack up and leave. We will recover, I assure you."

Duterte then flew to Japan, one of the top US allies in Asia, for a three-day visit that is partly aimed at building on two-way trade of more than $18 billion dollars last year.

"With Japan as the Philippines' top trading partner, I shall seek the sustainment and further enhancement of our important economic ties," Duterte, 71, said in prepared remarks at Manila airport.

"I look forward to meeting business leaders in Japan. I will tell them clearly that the Philippines is open for business."

Upon arrival in Tokyo, he proceeded to a hotel for an event with members of the local Filipino community where he heaped more invective on Washington.

"I do not want to fight," he said. "But these stupid Americans, you know the Americans are really a bully... they are bullies, these pests."

In contrast, Duterte had nothing but praise for Tokyo.

"Japan has really been our biggest helper," he said, citing assistance in the form of an airport and road-building projects.

"The fact is they are really so very kind," he added.

But his harsh criticism of Washington -- which guarantees Japan's security -- is likely to be seen as embarrassing.

Duterte will meet with Prime Minister Shinzo Abe and have an audience with Emperor Akihito during the trip, which follows his headline-grabbing state visit to China last week.

- 'Lapdog' -

A self-proclaimed socialist with close links to communists, Duterte last week announced in Beijing the Philippines' "separation" from the US, throwing into doubt a 70-year alliance that is anchored on a mutual defence treaty.

He quickly walked back from his comments after returning from China, saying "separation" did not mean he would "sever" ties and that the US alliance would continue.

Still, the anti-American vitriol kept flowing.

Prior to departure for Tokyo, Duterte said he was not a "lapdog" of the US, and again voiced anger at American and European criticism of apparent extrajudicial killings on his watch.

"You are a son of a whore," he said referring to his critics.

"Do not make us dogs. Do not. As if I am a dog with a leash and then you throw bread far away that I cannot reach."

Duterte has previously branded US President Barack Obama a "son of a whore" and told him to "go to hell".

Russel, the US envoy, said after meeting Philippine Foreign Secretary Perfecto Yasay on Monday that many people around the world were becoming increasingly worried about Duterte's tirades.

Japan, which is wary of China's rising influence in the region, signalled it would be looking for clarification from Duterte about his foreign policy plans.

"It is important to have good communication and to listen directly to what Mr Duterte has in mind," Japanese Foreign Minister Fumio Kishida told reporters ahead of a meeting with the president when asked about his comments on ties with Washington.

Abe had worked to improve bilateral relations with Duterte's predecessor, Benigno Aquino.

Japan provided patrol boats to support the Philippines in its territorial row with Beijing over rival claims to the South China Sea, as it sought backing in its own maritime dispute with China.

Aquino took Beijing to an international tribunal over its extensive claims in the South China Sea -- where it has built artificial islands capable of hosting military facilities -- and the Philippines won a resounding victory in July.

But Duterte has sought not to use the verdict to anger China, instead worked to improve ties and attract billions of dollars in Chinese loans and investments.

Korean Police force arrive to help investigate killings in Pampanga Philippines

Được đăng bởi Man United on Friday, October 21, 2016

Korea’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) said the country’s police are now working together with their Philippine counterparts in investigating the killing of three Koreans in Pampanga recently.

MOFA Deputy Spokesperson Sun Nahmkook told Manila Bulletin that Korean police are now in the Philippines.

“We have very good relations with Philippines especially in police cooperation. Our police have been dispatched to the Philippines and they are cooperating now with Philippine policemen,” he said during a question-and-answer session with foreign news correspondents.

Four investigation experts from Korea’s National Police Agency were sent to the Philippines last October 13 to support the investigation of Philippine law enforcement agency.

The bodies of the three Koreans were found in Barangay Maliwalo in Bacolor, Pampanga on October 11, bringing to six the number of Koreans who were killed in the Philippines this year.

Despite the killings, Sun said the Korean government will not issue a new travel advisory for Koreans in travelling to the Philippines.

“Travel advisory is already placed and (there is no plan) to change (it). I haven’t heard about any change in travel advisory to the Philippines because of the incident,” he added.

Last November, the Korean government issued a travel advisory, banning Koreans from visiting Basilan, Sulu, Zamboanga and Tawi-Tawi in the Philippines after a Korean man who was kidnapped by Abu Sayyaf was found dead.

The MOFA and the Korean Embassy in the Philippines has created a “team for the protection of overseas Koreans” and a “local response team,” respectively.

These teams will work closely with authorities in the Philippines and request the Philippine government to solve the recent killings through a speedy and thorough investigation.

MOFA held meetings with high-level officials for foreign affairs and public security to ask them to ensure the safety and protection of Koreans in the Philippines.

Ambassador for Overseas Koreans and Consular Affairs Han Dong-man was to meet with Acting Deputy Chief for Administration Francisco Uyami of the Philippines on October 19 during the latter’s visit to Korea about the killings.

The Philippines and China ink tourism cooperation agreement

Được đăng bởi Man United

THE Philippines and China signed on Thursday an agreement to implement the memorandum of understanding (MOU) on tourism cooperation signed between both countries in 2002.

The signing of the tourism-cooperation program for 2017 to 2022 helps normalize diplomatic ties between both countries, which was earlier marked by an informal ban on Chinese leisure travels to the Philippines.

The agreement on an implementation program, a copy of which was obtained by the BusinessMirror, provides, among others, a framework to encourage investments in tourism infrastructure, and a scheme to increase tourism traffic in both countries.

This follows the launch by China Eastern Airlines’s new charter flights between Guangzhou and Laoag, Ilocos Norte, which promised to send about 400 Chinese tourists a week.
Its first flight to Laoag will take place on November 1, traditionally observed as All Saints’ Day in the Philippines. The flight will carry more than 100 passengers, according to a news statement from the Department of Tourism (DOT). Tourism Secretary Wanda Corazon T. Teo attended the launch along with major tourism stakeholders, which was held at the White Swan Hotel in Guangzhou.

The Jimei Group, a Macau-based casino junket operator, which now owns Fort Ilocandia and Resort Casino in Laoag, and the Fontana Hot Springs Leisure Park in Clark, Pampanga, initiated the charter flights. The chartered flights between Guangdong and Laoag will run twice a week.

“The tourists will stay at Fort Ilocandia, where they could play golf, and at the casino. They could also explore Ilocos Norte’s sand dunes, cinematic landscapes, beaches and historical sites,” Teo said.

With the launch of the chartered flights, the DOT chief expressed optimism the agency could surpass its 6-million visitor-arrivals target for 2016.

The Jimei Group is chaired by Jack Lam, the so-called godfather of gaming, and is known as one of the largest VIP junket-casino operators in Asia. He brings players to Las Vegas Sands and Wynn Macau, as well as owns the casino at the Mandarin Oriental in Macau.

Ironically, Teo’s brother, broadcast journalist Erwin Tulfo, lambasted Lam in April 2015 in his column in another paper, accusing Lam of operating unlicensed online casinos.

“Lam, who owns the Fontana Leisure and  Water Park in the former US Air Base in Angeles City, has reportedly ‘issued sublicenses’ to Chinese and Korean nationals to operate online gambling in the said resort,” Tulfo said.

“Apparently, Lam’s activities have gained the ire of certain officials of the Bureau of Immigration [BI], as well as those of Pagcor [Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corp.], as these clandestine operations involve foreigners who have no proper visas and work permits,” he added. (http://bit.ly/2e3r9PS)

The DOT is targeting Chinese visitor arrivals to reach 632,947 in 2016, and 729,715 in 2017. In 2015 Chinese tourists in the Philippines grew by 24.3 percent to 490,841. From January to July 2016, Chinese arrivals in the Philippines grew by 64 percent to 422,801.

Teo signed the implementation agreement on the tourism-cooperation program on behalf of the Philippines, with China National Tourism Administration (CNTA) Chairman Li Jinzao representing the Beijing government. President Duterte, who is on his first state visit to China, and Chinese President Xi Jinping, witnessed the signing of the agreement.

Both governments have agreed to “a working group to implement” the tourism-cooperation  program, to be composed of officials from the DOT and the CNTA. The working group “will meet at least once a year, whenever necessary, to further discuss the implementation of the tourism programs, as well as the facilitation of the execution of the undertakings.”

The document also provides the exchange of tourism professionals, “to strengthen the mutual development in the field of hotels, resorts, cruise, port, tourism products and other related industries and competency standards;” the exchange of relevant tourism information and statistics; hold joint workshops and trainings; step up their cooperation in tourism safety and quality assurance; and launch joint promotion programs in identified markets.

“The participants will support each other’s tourism departments and enterprise in holding travel fairs, tourism exhibitions and other promotion initiatives, to inform the traveling public on the other participant’s tourism products and services, as well as cultivate awareness of environment protection and sustainable development in the growth of the participants’ tourism industries,” the agreement added.

The document also requires disputes over the program to be “settled amicably” through consultations and negotiations through diplomatic channels.

China is the largest source of outbound tourists in the world, according to the United Nations World Tourism Organization. Last year around 120 million Chinese traveled overseas and spent some $500 billion, according to the CNTA.

A Bit of Everything going on in Angeles City Pampanga Philippines, Visitors, Investors, Bars, Clubs and Raids October 2016 in REVIEW

Octobers Big News in Angeles City Pampanga, Philippines from a FOREIGN perspective

Mark returns to Touch of Class on November 2nd 2016 - Great news

After all the ups and downs, medical problems and fund raisers it is with immense pleasure for us to announce that Mark will be returning to TOC on November 2nd 2016.

You may or may not know this already but English Mark (ex Angelwitch, LIA, Voodoo, Emotions/TOC, Night Moves, Chelsea supporter) has been very sick recently. He has been struggling to breathe basically and finally went to Medical City to get some checks as he had been suffering from a severe chest infection, weakness, etc etc. Anyway, he has pneumonia combined with emphysema, COPD and other chest problems so has been really struggling to breathe to the point where he was close to deaths door. He was therefore been admitted to Medical City Clark for a few days to get his energy levels back up and pneumonia under control so that he can breathe properly again, he was released after 4 days and had a bill of over 96 thousand pesos and no salary for the lost hours where he has been absent from work.

Luckily for Mark there was a collection in Touch of Class and big donations from readers of PI at Night and Philippine Addicts (not all mongers are bad...)

Please make sure you can spare a moment to visit Mark on his first day at work and help him to show the owners of the bar what a great choice they have made by welcoming him back to work.

Recent typhoons breezed through Angeles City with major rain storms but little damage occurred leaving people relieved and able to get on with their daily work and tasks without much interruption to their schedules.  Many schools and Airports were closed on Thursday 19th October and many rural areas were damaged. Our thoughts go out to all the families affected and hope government are able to provide shelter and assistance to any families in need of support as a result of the Typhoons.

Rain or Shine the bars are always open for business

The bars are rarely closed in Angeles City during key drinking hours and no matter the weather owners do their best to provide a service to the community and an ability to earn a salary for the waitresses and dancers employed by the bars. Many bar owners should be commended for on occasion putting the bar ahead of their own personal health or safety.

Good looking girls are hidden in Korean bars and KTV's

For guys wondering what happened to Angeles City in recent years as it has become apparent that the Western owned and Filipino owned and Managed bars seem to have line ups of girls that are less pleasing on the eye than 5-10 years ago. Actually the hot girls are still around but have changed their preference to Korean and Japanese guys due to their ability to spend money and shower girls with gifts. There are still many wealth white guys in Angeles but many of the local expats are living on their military pensions and others spending their savings that need to last 20-30 years therefore meaning many guys are priced out of the market at the top end where the Koreans are shopping.

The average cost of a take out from a Korean bar is 2500 which is similar to Western Bars like Q Bar, Angel Witch, Lollipop or Viking. But the quality is just so different, I invite people to go and visit Day Bar, Lipstick or Girls Generation on the extended perimeter between Horizon condominiums and Clarkton Hotel. On Walking Street Aura, IColor and Apple Bar have really spent time recruiting and retaining their best girls in order to be competitive with Dollhouse, Centauro and Atlantis bars who retain a large following despite mixed line ups.

KTV's in Angeles are home to girls who like to sing with Koreans and Japanese guys and then are free to use their rooms however they see fit, Top KTV's in Angeles City have recruited some stunning girls and give guys the privacy to play with girls without getting caught in public.

Fire Pit Raid is hopefully a "ONE OFF" rather than a beginning of a trend

The recent raid on Fire Pit that is yet to re-open has caused a lot of worry among bar owners, managers and bar girls right across Angeles. The bar was regarded the most popular bar on the Perimeter and the owners have the best they can to keep other group bars Eruptions and New Orange fully staffed aswell as Fire Pit sports. It just shows that there is a worrying lack of communication between the authorities and the bars on standards and requirements, I for one would be happy for the bars to be regulated and to be regularly checked with managers and owners responsible for Underage or Trafficked girls however if a girl sees an advert in the window and applies for a job dancing or serving drinks this should not be classified as trafficking or entrapment.
Lets hope with Christmas only 2 months and a bit away all bars remain open and girls safe.

TTKD festival will be good for music lovers but annoying to regular bar hoppers

TTKD 2015 was a record breaking music festival in Angeles City with over 100,000 people partying in what is a celebration within the local Filipino community with areas such as Nepo Mall, Astro Park, Street areas on Walking Street and Fields Avenue near Skytrax affected. Western guys are advised to carry less money and be aware of your surroundings at all times.

The Kandi Towers experience

Interestingly Flora Street is a different place than it was 5-6 years ago in Angeles City, it was an area that was hidden away and the area was somewhat underappreciated and today 2016 there are some incredible developments in place on the Back of Kandi Suites long term plan to build a expat community of residents from all over the world living in luxurious but affordable accommodation in Angeles City, the development of Kandi from what was a 9 condo development to now being a business responsible for developing over 130 condo units and the majority of them are sold out resulting in Kandi Towers being their latest success story. The next tower is already under development and is 99% subscribed as we speak and I am sure Mark and Frazer have their eyes on Phase 3 and 4 before they are done.

Its worth noting that the initial success of Kandi inspired many developers to take a look at the surrounding areas away from Fields and the Perimeter areas that were always quite expensive and high profile for such projects to make sense, Now we have Prime Asia Hotel, Ambassador Suites, Affinity Condo and at the North of the Perimeter there is Horizon. The standard of Kandi is what makes it different, Artistic designs and bright interiors keeping rooms looking refreshing and stylish and now people visiting town for one month, one year or to live have great options away from expensive hotels such as Widus or Lewis Grand that lack the same level of sophistication.

ABC need to up their food game

Angeles City's best hotel since the day it opened and still in 2016 nothing has changed, the hotel famous for its luxury rooms and amazing furniture has moved to the next level with its latest extension to the hotel with their Fiesta Suites costing upto 19500 pesos for one night and for 2 bedroom 26000 and 4 bedroom 52000 pesos a night, the standard is just EXCEPTIONAL and the design, care for what customers need all in pure luxury especially within Angeles City Standards.

The one thing letting ABC down is not the service in their restaurants its the food, For such a great place the food menu is average at best. The Baby Back ribs are 700 pesos and tiny, their dishes dont en-capture the imagination and as a result people tend to go to RBI for a steak or to Amore Mio and Al Bacio for Italian food and for Filipino BBQ they go to Ikabud for example. The menu is okay the quality is okay but the taste and price does not match the quality of overall.

I would imagine ABC revenue on food would go up a great deal if they offered Korean dishes like Samgyeopsal, Soondubu Jiggae and Bibimbap for example, Big Burgers and Pizza's and Italian dishes made with love and some Indian/Thai dishes and why not a Filipino BBQ option. Lets face it everyone loves ABC and im sure they already make a lot of money but why not get their food and dining offering upto a high standard and even more people will be visiting and spending money rather than giving it to a competitor.

Lewis Grand Swimming pool paint going on customers hands and feet

Lewis Grand is a decent hotel with great rooms, a few air conditioning problems and friendly staff but the latest challenge for management appears to be their Swimming pool. It was reported around 6 months ago that the pool was looking old and paint had come off at the bottom of the pool due to the chemicals and amount of regular use by visitors and guests. Recently they have tried to paint the pool with special paint but actually it appears to be attaching itself to the feet and hands of many people using the pool. There may come a time where LGH think about draining the pool and refurbishing the pool so that people can swim safely without getting dirty.

A Pink Bar - Update

Seems to have kicked off well enough, the bar has a good line up for its early stage and girls seem open to Western and Japanese/Korean guys. I noticed that girls in A Pink Bar are very keen to drink and have fun with guys and I recommend people give it a try and you may end up with a decent girl that you are certain not to see in Det5 or Gentlemans for example.

Day Bar (Hole in One) - Update

The bar has received a lot of good press and some of the towns big spenders have taken to the bar quite quickly. They seem to have taken a few girls from the clutches of LAS VEGAS (really should be called LAST VEGAS) bar. Many Koreans seem to like Jamaica who is a leggy Filipina with a naughty side and she is known to be a performer although quite high maintenance. There seems to be a number of decent girls on offer so guys pop in and see what hidden gems you can discover.

Bar Hoppin gets renamed as ROUTE 69... (wasn't that a SUBIC bar)

In what I hope to be a positive move, Bar Hoppin has been renamed Route 69. I have never been a big fan of Bar Hoppin as it was always quite an easy to forget bar where simply nothing happened. The location of this bar being slightly out of the way is a massive disadvantage when trying to attract the Perimeter and Fields walking trade instead a limited crowd are likely to visit Bar Hoppin (or now Route 69) unless they develop a strong line up. Now on the positive side Route 69 employed some of the hottest girls in Subic where a very young Christina and Jackie used to work before Christina transferred into Q Bar and became the most popular girl I have ever known in High Society (Both of those girls are now in relationships and are out of the single market so guys back off them)

Americans in Philippines are jittery as China-bound Duterte rails against United States - SCMP

Được đăng bởi Man United on Tuesday, October 18, 2016

In a bar along the Philippines’ Subic Bay owned by an American military veteran, the main topic of conversation is not the upcoming US election despite the Donald Trump coffee mugs, photographs and caps on display.

The talk is of Philippines President Rodrigo Duterte’s tensions with Washington and his courting of China, which is worrying the bar’s mostly American clients who have settled in the vicinity of the huge Subic Bay base, a former US navy installation.

“The biggest fear is that one day he’s going to wake up and say ‘everybody from the US, get out of town’ and we’d have to leave our loved ones behind,” said Jack Walker, a retired Marine sergeant who has lived in Olongapo, the town around the base, for five years.

For more than a century the Philippines and the United States have had a shared history of colonialism, wars, rebellion, aid and deep economic ties. That could change as Duterte’s three-month-old administration re-examines the relationship.

In a series of conflicting statements, Duterte has insulted US President Barack Obama and the US ambassador in Manila for questioning his war on drugs, which has led to the deaths of more than 2,000 suspected users and pushers. He told Obama to “go to hell” and alluded to severing ties with Washington.

Then, after weeks of anti-American rhetoric, Duterte said the Philippines would maintain its existing defence treaties and its military alliances.

The comments have left Americans and US businesses in the Philippines jittery about their future, said Ebb Hinchliffe, executive director of the American Chamber of Commerce.

“Every time he opens his mouth and says something negative about America, that hurts me personally ... and from a business standpoint, it’s not helping,” he said

He said three trade delegations representing American technology, financial services and manufacturing companies had cancelled trips to the Philippines in recent weeks.

At least two American companies have opted to do business in Vietnam instead “because of the president’s anti-American sentiment”. Hinchliffe declined to name the companies or give further details.

The United States effectively ruled the Philippines from 1898, when it acquired the country from Spain, until recognizing its independence in 1946.

About four million people of Philippine ancestry live in the United States, one of its largest minorities, and about 220,000 Americans, many of them military veterans, live in the Philippines. An additional 650,000 visit each year, according to US State Department figures.

According to a Pew Research Centre study last year, the Philippines is the most pro-US country in the world.

Despite the shared history, though, the Philippines has a strong nationalistic movement that has questioned the US alliance. In 1991, the government asked Washington to vacate the Subic Bay naval facility and the nearby Clark Air Base.

But as tensions increased with China over the territorial dispute in the South China Sea, the Philippines signed an Enhanced Defence Cooperation Agreement (EDCA) with the United States in 2014 that grants Washington increased military presence through rotation of ships and aircraft for humanitarian and maritime security operations.

However, Duterte has said that agreement will be reviewed and he insists that the Philippines, the third-largest Asian recipient of American military aid after Pakistan and Afghanistan, can do without assistance.

He was to leave for China on Tuesday on a state visit that could shift alliances in the region.
Philippine government officials have sought to play down Duterte’s comments.

“Where the president is coming from is that he wants to encourage the Filipino people to be more independent,” said government spokesman Ernesto Abella.

“It’s not so much an anti-American relationship as a pro-Philippine sentiment.”
Still, the mood was sombre at Dynamite Dick’s bar in Olongapo.

Edward Pooley, a former Marine colonel who has lived in the Philippines for nearly 30 years, said Duterte’s words were “heartbreaking” but he remained optimistic about the bilateral relationship in the long term.

“We’ve always done a lot of charitable activities and ... we feel the appreciation. Don’t give up on us,” he said.

The mayor of the city of 220,000, Rolen Paulino, said his people were “pro-American” but that he supports Duterte’s shift in foreign policy.

“If the president wants to invite Russia and China ... I will teach my people Russian and Chinese because we have to adapt,” Paulino said.

But many in the business community have labelled Duterte’s rhetoric as largely bluster and take comfort in the fact that he has yet to translate it into action.

The business process outsourcing (BPO) sector - expected to account for 9 per cent of GDP this year - remains largely optimistic about growth in the Philippines.

“Suffice to say, there are questions that are being asked because of (Duterte’s) statements,” said Danilo Reyes, country manager of Genpact, one of the biggest American BPO companies in the country. “But it does not really translate to actions, we continue to expand.”

The New York Times: The U.S. Doesn’t Need the Philippines

Được đăng bởi Man United

Doug Bandow, a former special assistant to President Ronald Reagan, is a senior fellow at the Cato Institute. He is the author of "Beyond Good Intentions: A Biblical View of Politics."

America is a curious great power. It cowers before international lightweights, begging the least significant nations to let it defend them. Such as the Philippines.

President Rodrigo Duterte has gained notoriety for the official murder of thousands of drug users and dealers. He then publicly insulted President Obama for criticizing this murderous policy.

United States credibility suffers when a nation long subsidized and defended by America shows such ostentatious disrespect. The Philippine president shouldn’t be treated like a co-equal and ally if he doesn’t behave like one.

Moreover, the Philippines needs America far more than America needs the Philippines. Manila spends less than 1 percent of its gross domestic product on its military and its best ships are U.S. cast-offs. It doesn’t help defend the United States from anyone.

Rather, Manila expects Washington’s protection even though the archipelago matters little for the United States. America retains the Pacific as a barrier and faces no serious threats to its homeland.

Of course, Washington sees domination of East Asia as an American birthright. Base access obviously helps the U.S. attempt to enforce its will. However, convenience does not translate into interests substantial enough to risk war.

The region matters far more to nearby China, which understandably does not want to be contained. It also costs Beijing far less to deter U.S. intervention than it does for America to project power: missiles and subs are less costly than aircraft carrier groups. With no one threatening free navigation, Washington must decide what kind of risk it is willing to take on behalf of what remain primarily other nations’ territorial interests.

Insisting on defending the Philippines irrespective of its actions is particularly dangerous. Manila relies on American support rather than its own military in confronting China and could drag the United States into a conflict easily.

Washington should drop the “mutual” defense treaty and joint patrols. Maintaining base access is good insurance but does not require a security guarantee, especially over contested territory, such as Scarborough Shoal. Moreover, such access is not worth paying any price: America lost no influence when Subic Bay and Clark Airfield closed decades ago.

President Duterte is not a reliable ally. The United States should not allow such an unpredictable regime to be a trigger for war.

Philippines Manila Airport: NAIA ranked 5th worst airport in Asia

Được đăng bởi Man United

MANILA, Philippines – The tanim bala (bullet planting) scheme prevalent at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) last year placed the country’s main gateway again among the worst airports in Asia, in fifth place.

This was three notches worse from last year’s eighth rank, according to a travel website.

A survey released by “The Guide to Sleeping in Airports” said travelers’ complaints include the tanim bala scheme that victimized NAIA passengers by planting a bullet in their luggage and then demanding money to “fix” the offense, frequent power outages, poor air-conditioning, lack of seats and complicated terminal transfers.

Four Philippine airports, on the other hand, made it to the list of 30 best airports in the region.

These are the Iloilo International Airport, which placed 12th; Mactan-Cebu International Airport in 14th spot; Clark International Airport at 15th and Davao City’s Francisco Bangoy International Airport, 26th.

“Survey respondents were quick to let us know when things at the airports were not going well,” the website noted.

With major renovations implemented at the country’s main international gateway, the NAIA – for the second consecutive year – was not included in the world’s list of worst airports.

The NAIA was ranked world’s worst airport in 2011 and 2013, and was also named worst in Asia in 2012.

“Some travelers noted improvements in the airport structure and facilities such as cleaner bathrooms, more chairs and some general organization of taxis in front of the terminal,” the travel website said.

Topping the list of the worst airports in Asia is Uzbekistan’s Tashkent International Airport, followed by Nepal’s Tribhuvan International Airport, Pakistan’s Bacha Khan International Airport and Afghanistan’s Hamid Karzai International Airport.

Following NAIA on the list are Benazir Bhutto International Airport in Pakistan, Chennai International Airport in India, Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport in China, Shahjalal International Airport in Bangladesh and Siem Reap International Airport in Cambodia.

Singapore’s Changi International Airport topped the list of best airports in the world as well as in Asia, followed by Seoul Incheon International Airport in South Korea and Tokyo Haneda International Airport in Japan in third spot.

The Jeddah King Abdulaziz International Airport in Saudi Arabia was named worst airport in the world, followed by Juba International Airport in South Sudan and Port Harcourt International Airport in Nigeria.

The survey asked travelers to rate airports worldwide based on their overall experience.

Travelers rate airports on the following factors: comfort (rest zones and gate seating), facilities and things to do, food options, immigration or security, customer service and cleanliness.

The Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines, which supervises 81 airports all over the country, welcomed the results of the survey. – With Rudy Santos

Duterte's anti-US rants rattle American firms in Philippines

Được đăng bởi Man United

Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte's outbursts against the United States have left Americans and their businesses in the Philippines jittery about their future, said American Chamber of Commerce of the Philippines executive director Ebb Hinchliffe.

"Every time he opens his mouth and says something negative about America, that hurts me personally... and from a business standpoint, it's not helping," he said.

Three trade delegations representing US technology, financial services and manufacturing companies had cancelled trips to the Philippines in recent weeks, he added.

At least two American companies have opted to do business in Vietnam "because of the President's anti-American sentiment", Mr Hinchliffe said, without naming them.

Since taking office on June 30, Mr Duterte has sought to reshape his nation's foreign relations by pivoting towards China and Russia.

Accompanied by a business delegation of at least 200, he arrived in Beijing yesterday on a state visit, during which he seeks to open a new commercial alliance with China aimed at boosting the Philippine economy.

Despite his anti-US rhetoric, an opinion poll showed yesterday that people in the Philippines still trust the US far more than China.

Though trust in both countries had declined slightly since the last survey in June, a Social Weather Stations poll conducted from Sept 24 to 27 showed that 55 per cent of Filipinos had "little trust" in China, versus 11 per cent who had doubts about the US.

Just over three-quarters, or 76 per cent, of the 1,200 respondents had "much trust" in the US, compared with 22 per cent who felt the same about China. The poll did not ask respondents to explain their views.

The June poll had shown that 81 per cent had "much trust" in the US and 9 per cent had "little trust". Feelings about China were better at the time, with 27 per cent having high trust and 51 per cent little trust.

The US effectively ruled the Philippines from 1898, when it acquired the country from Spain, until recognising its independence in 1946.

About four million people of Philippine ancestry live in the US, forming one of the country's largest minorities, and about 220,000 Americans, many of them military veterans, live in the Philippines. Another 650,000 visit each year, according to US State Department figures.

Angeles City Finance: Investors bullish on Clark as growth center within the Philippines

Được đăng bởi Man United

Developers of a logistics center here on Tuesday expressed confidence about the potential of Clark as the country's growth center.

Officials of the Global Gateway Development Corporation (GGDC), led by their Chief Executive Officer Mark Williams stressed this during the topping off ceremony for the two towers inside the AeroPark Campus mixed used facility inside the 177-hectare Global Gateway Logistics City (GGLC).

Once completed, the GGLC will generate more than 300,000 jobs and reinforce the status of Central Luzon as an emerging economic hotspot of the Philippines and the whole Asia.

"And it will highlight the potential of the Philippine countryside as a catch-basin of the overflowing vibrancy of Metro Manila," Williams said.

Some US$100 million dollars were already infused in the project and an additional US$250 million were appropriated for its completion, according to Williams.

AeroPark Campus One West and Two West towers, which are nearing completion, will add 45,000 square meters of Grade A office space and 9,000 square meter of retail space in Clark Freeport, Williams said.

The two buildings represent the first phase of the multi-million dollar AeroPark Campus in the 177-hectare Global Gateway Logistics City in Clark.

"With the addition of new high-quality office space located in a well-designed master planned precinct within the Clark Freeport Zone and directly adjacent to the Clark International Airport, we foresee the Clark Freeport Zone emerging as a new office and logistics hub for the Philippines," Williams said.

He added that the two new buildings are LEED pre-certified gold, with a target to become platinum, as they were constructed to international green standards. LEED refers to the Leadership in Energy and Environment Design (LEED) international green building rating system.

"GGDC is the same company that built The Medical City Clark's 173-bed world-class medical center and the first locator in GGLC, a master-planned mixed-use aerotropolis that is the first of its kind in the country.

GGDC was originally founded by The Port Fund, a private equity fund managed by Kuwait firm KGL Investment Company (KGLI) whose investors largely consist of the shareholders of government entities of Kuwait and other GCC countries.

Williams said three more buildings will rise in 2017 at the Aeropark Campus, located just across The Medical City Clark.

The five office buildings will be interconnected by walkways at the second floor, allowing for traffic-free pedestrian movement. Each building in the campus will have 2 floors of retail space meant to service inhabitants of the new city.

The five office towers in the AeroPark Campus will have a combined gross floor area of 142,000 square meters.

AeroPark Campus is a part of GGLC, a 177-hectare fully master planned logistics and business center of excellence that will have 5.8 million square meters of floor space, once it is fully developed.
The project, directly adjacent to Clark International Airport, boasts of superior, world-class infrastructure constructed to internationally recognized standards and quality underground infrastructure (including pressurized water systems, electrical, telecommunications and fiber optic cabling, and oversized storm water drainage systems) that is unique in the country, according to Williams.

"At full buildout, the City will create over 300,000 jobs translating to over US$600 million in annual payroll," Williams said.

Williams said the topping-off ceremony manifests GGDC's commitment to the full development of GGLC, which is envisioned to become the most modern city in Southeast Asia.

GGDC plans to transform GGLC into a state-of-the-art commercial and logistics aerotropolis built to the highest environment standards. GGDC has a lease on the property for a period of 50 years, with an option to renew for 25 years.

High Society Week in Review - Leading up to 16th October 2016, Angeles City Pampanga PHILIPPINES - PARTY

Được đăng bởi Man United

High Society is gearing up for Halloween and the Festive Season in Style with some serious level up in terms of atmosphere, music and overall experience. Many forget the experience starts with the first employee you encounter that usually being the doorman and woman who haven't been overly friendly since Prince Charles, Aaron and Lewis left the scene but this weekend they were nice as pie and actually welcoming to what remains Angeles City's No1 Nightclub.

Paulymack was on top form as was his Notorious Crew, there is no question that Pauly remains the No1 MC in town and his team really do represent well.

Inside the bar there were some old faces in what was a mixed crowd of Koreans, Malay Indians and Westerners from black and white demographics and yes a large number of Filipino boys hoping to catch their dream girl by offering to get them drunk.

The pricing system for drinks in High Society has kept the bar "AVAILABLE FOR ALL" but perhaps AC needs a club that is not "AVAILABLE FOR ALL" instead more sophisticated where cocktails, champagne and high quality spirits are the drinks of choice and RED HORSE is nowhere near the drinks list...let's keep San Miguel light though as its decent.

Have a look at the latest photos taken by Maye who has now put years of her time into making sure the club is best presented on FACEBOOK and across the internet.

Perimeter Bars under rumored "RAID threat from unknown people claiming to be CIDG" in Angeles City Philippines

Được đăng bởi Man United

A number of guys are getting very concerned about rumors that the Perimeter Bars are potentially being lined up for raids, Some bar girls are getting frightened and claim that the unnamed people claiming to be CIDG are asking for the names of the Bar Managers and Owners of each bar, so far girls from 7 bars have made similar claims but refuse to be identified.

They were supposed to have asked for weekly donations from the 7 bars and claimed to threaten if no donations would be given bars would be put on a RAID LIST..Sounds like a frightening fear tactic but one with major repercussions if it is indeed a real threat...

Many rumors like this could actually be untrue but could potentially be true, its hard to know what is real and what has come straight from someones imagination instead of being fact.

Touch of Class and Emotions in particular are performing badly and have a line up of frightened girls in bars that seem massively unorganized since Mark had gone to hospital, lets hope he comes back to work soon and gets business going again there.

Most importantly is bars respect the laws, make sure if officers do visit to check ID's and hopefully the legitimate CIDG and police associates will have the bars back in times where it seems extortion is somewhat of a possibility - lets hope these rumors are just rumors and its business as usual.

Samsung Galaxy Note 7 banned by more airlines over fire risk - BBC

Được đăng bởi Man United

An airline flight ban on Samsung's Galaxy Note 7 is spreading fast after reports some phones have caught fire.

Carriers in Australia, Asia and Europe put the phone on a prohibited list over the weekend, which comes after the US banned the device last week.

Carriers flying to the US inevitably had to follow suit, but the bans are spreading worldwide.
In addition to several flag carriers taking action, Air Berlin, Dragonair and Virgin Australia now have bans.

Qantas and its discount carrier Jetstar said in a statement: "The ban applies to devices being carried onto the aircraft, in carry-on baggage as well as check-in luggage."

Virgin Australia issued a similar announcement, but added that passengers were "strongly advised" not to bring the Note 7 phone to airports.

Air Berlin has banned the phones with immediate effect. Larger German rival Lufthansa has a ban on flights to the US, but is reportedly planning to impose the restriction across all flights soon.

Singapore Airlines said on its Facebook page that "the Galaxy Note 7 smartphone will be prohibited from being brought on board all our flights in person, in carry-on baggage or checked-in baggage with effect from 16 October".

Samsung recalled around 2.5 million phones in September after complaints of exploding batteries.
While it later insisted that all replaced devices were safe, there were reports that those phones were catching fire too.

The company then said it would stop Galaxy Note 7 production.
